Great start for a beginner!!
Thought you might like to see the progress that one of the group members Shelley has made, having never picked up a pair of knitting needles Shelley went into a local wool shop to purchase a pattern that she had seen along with the wool and the needles. the pattern is for a blanket which is knitted in squares some stocking stitch, some with hearts in the centre and some in garter stitch. I hope you lioke the photo as much as I do well done Shelley!!

Now this is how to unwind!!
Fab turn out at knitting club on Friday night, even local councillors need to unwind and relax! Paul McCartan our local councillor for Labour joined us and learnt to crochet. It was nice to see you Paul and we all hope you will come again! It was nice to see Brenda in class, she hadn't been for a few weeks and she was welcomed back with open arms :)
Shelley went away a very happy little bunny after knitting her first ever square and I am looking forward to seeing the finished project and hopefully there will be a photo on here.
As always a good time was had by all and the next meeting is on Friday 11 May 2012 at Grannie Annies Coffee Shop from 7pm til 8.30pm hope to welcome more to our happy little get together
Happy knitting folks (and crocheting too)

Well what a miserable day we are having and it has forcast rain the next 2 days please rain go away and bring on the sunshine!!
On Easter Day I went to Scunthorpe General Hospital and delivered a box of hand knitted goodies for the NICU and delivery suite, the look on the midwifes face when she opened the box was priceless and she said that they were beautiful.

Giant Knitting bag!!!!
At a recent meeting Sue (Dinsdale) said she would like a BIG knitting bag well I have made myself one and here is a photo of the bag tell me what you think! it is large enough for all my knitting needs, it has 2 small pockets on the sides of the bag inside and out, on the inside it has 2 large pockets on the back and front and finally it has 3 pcokets ont he outside of the bag back and front it would also make a suitable bag for the beach, for shopping or even for a new mum to put nappies and change of clothes amongst other things I suppose the list is endless, I have also made one in pink / white prequilted gingham to take to the next group on Friday 27th April 7pm Grannie Annies (just so you don't forget lol)
I have had a message from a lady asking if the group is just for knitting and crocheting which it is at the moment but I am in the process of looking for a portable sewing machine so that I can help people who would like to learn to sew so watch this space.

I have emailed Steph Bateman at Epworth Bells with the correct dates and she will make sure
that it will be right in the next Diary Dates section as for the photo that was taken on Friday 16th
March, she was unaware of it as Mark Ditchfield had left the Bells this will be in next weeks edition , I have also asked if she will put the names of the ladies who couldn't make it so fingers crossed!!
On another note the wool that was the prize for Knitting Club of the Month in March 2012 issue of Simply
Knitting has arrived!! I am a little disappointed as one pack is white dk lovely for the charity knitting but the other is navy blue never mind I am sure we can make use of it!
I have got a box full of items for the hospital which I will be taking on Monday 9th April to the Delivery Suite I am hoping that they will allow me to get a photo of the hand over Lynda Muldoon doesn't see a problem but she did say to check with the midwife first which I would do anyway.
Well happy knitting and crocheting and I hope to see you at the next meeting on Friday 13th April - I know, I know it is unlucky for some but happily I am not superstitious!!
Anne :)

friday nite!!
Another great nite was had at the knitting group on Friday, shelley brought in a beautiful crocheted ripple blanket in a rainbow of colours which matched the bear she is making. Lots of laughter was happening and the discussion of a trip out somewhere was mentioned. Refreshements and sweeties!!!! were served by Carol :) and I must admit that the sweets went down a treat!!

New members
A big hello was extended to new members to the group - Anne Willey, Debbie, Shelley Mackay and Kelly Lambert (although Kelly goes to the Eastoft group as a rule!)
The photographer came and took our picture so we will be in the Epworth Bells & Crowle Advertiser this week fingers crossed and in the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph (out on Thursday) will be a bit about the group on the Isle page.
I am going to make a scrap book with all the cuttings about the Isle Knit groups so that people can look through it and see what we are all about. The charity knitting is coming along lovely and I would like to say "thank you" to Helens Auntie Beryl who has offered to do some knitting for the NICU :)
I will let you go and enjoy the "First" day of spring and happy knitting and crocheting, remember any problems with the pattern you can alway email me on cherishedkidsknits@hotmail.co.uk or ring me on 07806 486726

Excited!!!
Oh how excited am I and let me point out it doesn't take much!! I have received an email from the maternity department at Goole Hospital which I have put on here for you to see:
"Dear Anne
Thank you so much for your kind offer, which, we would be very grateful for – especially very small items for our premature babies.
Kind Regards
Lynda"
This email really made my day and I have also received a letter from Lincoln County Hospital in which they say that they would love to receive knitted items from us unfortunately (and it is only a "little" unfortunately") they are unable to accept crocheted blankets I suppose it is incase small babies get they tiny wee hands caught in the holes BUT knitted was are fine!!
I also had an email from the Communications Manager at DRI (Doncaster Royal Infirmary) saying:
"Anne - many thanks for your message.
Regrettably, we are unable to accept knitted items because of the difficulty laundering them - and, without high-temperature laundry, garments present an infection risk.
I do hope you are able to find another outlet for your groups' efforts.
Regards
Hazel"
I appreciate this but I do know of one other group that knits for different hospitals (142) on a rotation basis.
For Goole I would love to have abox full of items suitable for the small premature babies to take when I have my weeks holiday - I will of course contact Lynda to see if it is ok to take the box in in person and if so I will let you all know.
Finally for those of you who come to the group the next one is on Friday 16th March - crikey thats THIS Friday!!
Until the next update - Happy Knitting!!

Another knitting session
What a lovely turn out we had on Wednesday night at the Eastoft meeting of the Knitting club. Sue has almost finished Petes scarf which is looking lovely, Helen is busy with her crocheted squares which she intends to make into a "lap" rug. It was nice to see Jakey and Kate oops sorry Kate and Jakey again, we have all missed Jakey (for anybody who doesn't know Jakey is a lovely dog) we have missed you too Kate!! Nicola has managed to master crochet and she seems very happy as it was on her "to do" list for 2012 even Gary (the tea/coffee maker) manage to come, he has started working and he missed the Crowle session but fingers crossed he will be on the right shift to come to one of the sessions.
I have a bit of news to pass on to everyone - I have emailed the Epworth Bells & Crowle Advertiser and Mark Ditchfield is going to arrange for a photographer to come to Crowle on either 16th or 30th March to do a piece for the community page in the paper and at a later date they will come to Eastoft so it is going to be a very good year for us after all we have been in the Simply Knitting magazine as Knitting Club of the Month!!
I have also emailed Selina Maycock at the Scunthorpe Evening Telegraph about both clubs so hopefully we will get more people coming to learn a new craft or to simply brush up on an old one.
Well folks thats all for now "Keep Knitting (and Crocheting)" x

Another great night!!
Well what a surprise lay in store for me when I arrived at Grannie Annies for the knitting group, a gentleman had been in and left a donation of £10 for yarn to knit more items for the baby unit it fair brought a tear to my eye it just goes to show that even in this economic climate there are still people out there willing to "give2 also thanks to Carol (Grannie Annies owner) for donating the fee yet another £10 for the yarn.
On Saturday (3rd March) I went to Hejhogs at 60 Pasture Road, Goole to purchase the yarn - I bought the following:

Another great night!!
Another wonderful night of knitting and nattering was held at Grannie Annies on 17th Feb. thankd to Phil (Carols husband) for coming and opening up for us it was very much appreciated as were the drinks. Welcome back to Mel (Sue Dinsdale daughter) was lovely to see you again and I am glad that she left happy after learning to crochet.
I have been busy making small blankets for our local hospitals Neonatal unit and Delivery Suite apparently delivery suites are grateful for any cardigans etc as even though babies born on there may not need Neonatal care they may still be too small for any clothing brought in with mummy!
Another knitting group will be held at Grannie Annies on Friday 2nd March 2012 from 7pm. So until then "Happy Knitting"

Crowle Knitting Club
Well what a wonderful turn out for Crowle Knitting club. we had 3 new members, one of which came all the way from Burton Upon Stather so a big "Hello" to Carol and also to Hazel and Lynne. Carol of Grannie Annies provided us all with refreshments and cake :) Thank you Carol!!
I managed to do a couple of rows of a cape I was working on but I spent sometime teaching Carol P how to crochet and by the time she left she was well on the way to making a pram cover which she has said she will donate to one of the charities we have chosen to knit for and that is the Neo-Natal unit at Scunthorpe General Hospital so thank you Carol.
We are all eagerly awaiting the arrival of the yarn we won after being chosen as "Club of the Month" in the March Issue of Simply Knitting.
Happy knitting :)

Welcome to Isle Knit
Welome to this the first of our blogs! I am Anne and I have set up a Knitting and Crocheting group in the Isle of Axholme well truthfull I have set up TWO!! It all started with a chance remark by a friend of mine Helen who said "Wouldn't it be great if there was a knitting group" and hey presto Isle Knit was born.
We have been running since October 2011 and is going from strength to strength, we have members of all skills and abilities. We knit anything from hats and scarves to jumpers and socks.
I mentioned earlier that one group wasn't enough so I run another one called Isle Knit 2. Isle Knit meets every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month at Grannie Annies Coffee Shop from 7pm to 8.30pm and Isle Knit 2 meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month at the Village Hall from 6.30pm to 8pm.
A typical meeting of either group starts with everyone catching up with what has happened since the last group meeting. There's plentey of laughter as well as teaching at the meetings as the more experienced members of the group share the skills and tips with the newer knitters. We are even in Issue 90 March 2012 of Simply Knitting!
Happy knitting until next time
